GUYS GUYS GUYS. It’s my BIRTHDAY. Ok, not quite, but my birthday is this Sunday and Food Porn Friday is my spiritual birthday. I’m celebrating with a good deal of food and ignoring the Tenerife diet. And here at Best Brunch Ever, I’m going to share with you my TOP 5 BIRTHDAY BRUNCH DISHES.
- Eggs Royale
Long term Best Brunch Ever fans (Hi mum!) will know my affinity for this dish. It basically comprises of three of my favourite things – oily smoked fish, soft white bread muffins, and a sauce almost entirely comprised of butter. It’s the only dish that could really kick off my brunch feast.
- Sausage sandwich
My ultimate hangover cure, I would go to the ends of the earth for a good sausage sandwich. Or even a mediocre sausage sandwich, made with cheap frozen sausages, slightly stale sliced white bread and a generous helping of Lurpak. But this recipe really takes it to the next level – adding egg, melted cheese and sweet melted butter to balance it out. Perfection.
- Pancakes
This is a brunch classic and for good reason – it has the perfect balance of sweet and savoury that is representative of our favourite kind of meals. I’m talking here about big, fluffy, American-style pancakes, bacon on the edge of charcoal, and a generous helping of butter and syrup. Yes, butter may well be a theme here…
- Something salted caramel
I call this the “pre-dessert” course, and all I knew is that it had to have salted caramel in it. Then I realised too obvious omissions from this birthday brunch list – French toast, and bananas. Luckily, this recipe combines all of the above – a beautiful banoffee French Toast for what ails you.
- CAKE
And of course, no birthday party would be complete without cake – over the top, far too rich for breakfast, Matilda-style extravagant cake. This one ticks all the buttons, and makes me feel like a millionaire.
Thank you for sharing this special day with me, and I’ll see you in a fortnight, when I’ll be 23! I know, I know, I’m excited too.
Happy birthday! 🙂
