Winter is drawing in. I’m sick. There’s some kind of plague going round the office and I’m sat in bed and chain-drinking tea. So hot drinks seems to be the way to go this week – especially as I did a straw poll on twitter and that’s what y’all wanted to see.
Hot chocolate made with proper melted chocolate is one of my little special treats – I break up a large bar of milk or semi-sweet dark chocolate into a mug’s worth of milk, melt in the microwave and blend with a stick blender. It’s actually super easy.
I might have mentioned before my absolute love of sea salt and hot chocolate, and doesn’t that cream look incredible? Also easier than you would think.
Porridge is pretty much a brunch staple, one we haven’t really covered yet I’ll admit. But in researching this, I discovered a Dominican classic hot beverage:
I put too much milk on my cereal and like my porridge very runny so the idea of just drinking porridge sounds pretty great to me.
Obviously, cocktails are key to brunch drinking, so I wanted to see what we had in the way of hot cocktails, and I found this. It’s basically a warm bloody mary.
I am not a big soup fan – texturally, I just find it too boring – but for some reason, I find it easier to think of it as a very filling hot drink.
Keeping on the alcohol theme, let’s move on to two of my favourite drinks this winter: spiced chai lattes, and baileys. Need I say any more.
It’s made with Chai Tea rather than the “I have no idea what this is but it’s probably mainly sugar” chai latte powder I have at home, but that’s probably more authentic… as authentic as a Baileys Chai can be.
So let’s finish up with a real latte, and the most December-y one you can have:
Happy advent! Leave your favourite hot drinks in the comments, and see you again soon.
Do you remember that photo I took of you in Italy (Florence) with the chocolate all round your face????!!!
